32-year-old journalist Mustafa Khader Bahr was killed by an alleged Israeli airstrike near the Kuwait roundabout, south of Gaza City, during the night of 31 March 2024.

Bahr, who was the co-founder of the Palestine Breaking News website, was reportedly covering an “operation to secure aid convoys heading to northern Gaza” when he was killed.

Bahr had founded Palestine Breaking News alongside several of his brothers in 2017. Their offices were in the family’s residential building. Bahr’s mother, speaking to the Committee to Protect Journalists, explained that the wider family had been displaced to the south but “some of [her] sons remained, including Mustafa.” She had lost another son, Mustafa’s brother Abdul Rahman, months earlier, on 6 October 2024. Another brother, Mahmoud, had also been killed prior.

Bahr leaves behind three children. Osama Bahr, a cousin, wrote that with Mustafa’s death, “a martyr has been added to the family list.” Included with the caption was a photograph of Mustafa with two young girls, possibly his daughters.

Mustafa’s name was matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health’s List of Fatalities in Gaza, first appearing in the list’s fifth publication, released 24 July 2024.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli military.
