Airwars assessment
On Monday, June 3rd, 2024, a number of civilians were reportedly killed in addition to between 12 to 17 militants that were killed and 15 others militants who were injured, following an alleged airstrike by the Israeli military on a copper factory located in the town of Hayyan, to the northeast of Aleppo, Syria. The strike reportedly occurred at approximately 00:20 on Monday night and inflicted material damage to property.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, referring to a military source, that “a number of civilians were martyred at dawn on Monday” as a result of the Israeli aerial attack. As SANA was the only source to report civilian harm, this incident has been graded as “weak.”
The purpose of the strike was reportedly against the militias affiliated with the Lebanese Iran Party that controlled Hayyan and were stationed at the copper factory. The strikes reportedly killed between 12 and 17 members of the militias, including the leader of the Lebanese Al-Lat Party Militia, Ibrahim Saeed Al-Ali, alongside his associates Muhammad Ihsan Shehadeh and “Al-Khanz”. A tweet from @abwkhly55016496 added that 15 other “members of the Iran militia” were injured in the attack.
Many sources shared a video where red flashes from explosions can be seen on the horizon. Twitter/X user @k7ybnd99 also shared an image of a building on fire.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
The incident occured at approximately 12:20 am local time.
