On the night of Friday, September 27th, 2024, a declared Israeli airstrike hit a house in the village of Beit Saber, located on the slopes of Mount Hermon in the southwestern Damascus countryside, Syria, killing the Hamas official Ahmad Muhammad Fahd Akko (Abu Fahd) and his wife, and inflicting a serious injury to their son, Abdullah Ahmad Akko. The incident reportedly occurred after midnight, with the strike destroying their family home. Some sources reported injuries of some other children of Ahmad without providing additional details.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated the strike at 8:10 AM on Saturday, writing about the assassination of a “Hamas terrorist”: “Overnight (Friday), following IDF intelligence, the IAF struck and eliminated the terrorist Ahmad Muhammad Fahd, Head of the Hamas terrorist network in southern Syria. Ahmad Muhammad Fahd was responsible for carrying out terror attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel from the area of southern Syria, including firing projectiles toward the Golan Heights area. The terrorist was eliminated while planning to carry out an imminent terror attack.”
According to Radio Tayf Facebook account, the late Ahmad Muhammad Fahd was an official of the Palestinian Hamas movement in Syria. According to the Facebook account of the media outlet Daraa24, Ahmad was a leader of the Hamas movement in southern Syria.
There were no local sources indicating that Ahmad Muhammad Fahd had any connection with militant groups. The only source mentioning the militant status was the perpetrator of the strike, the Israeli Defense Forces. Therefore, Ahmad has been classified
Local sources provided more details about the strike, mentioning the death and injury of Ahmad’s relatives. Twitter/X user @omar_nezhat, at 8:21 AM, shared: “Local pages mourned the young man and said that he was killed along with his wife as a result of the targeting of his home in the town of #Beit_Saber.”
Facebook user Al Hasneya extended its condolences to the young Abdullah Ahmad Akko on the loss of his parents and wished him a speedy recovery. He shared an image of Abdullah who looks like a teen or young man. In the image shared by the source, Abdullah is seen dressed in an emerald T-shirt and jeans and riding a bike. However, his exact age is unknown.
Sasaa Post shared on Facebook at 10:00 AM the prayers for Abdullah’s recovery: “Pray for the young man… May God have mercy on the woman who was taken from us too soon, the victim of this merciless aggression. Her death leaves a void that cannot be filled.”
Facebook posts by @Event Denouncer and @Jolaneen mentioned “the injury of the children” of the late Ahmad and his wife, but there was no information about the identity of the other children.
Although the Israeli military announced the strike, it did not acknowledge the civilian harm resulting from the attack. IDF did not specify the nature of the attack either. Some sources claimed that that was an airstrike while others wrote about a drone strike.
