At least one man, identified as a member of the Mujahid Qassami, was killed and three others were injured in an alleged Israeli drone strike on Deir Al-Balah.
According to Al Mezan, Mohammed Khaled Al-Tawashi, 21, a resident of Deir Al-Balah, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Al Aqsa Hospital at 8:30am. He was killed in an Israeli drone strike the previous evening near his home.
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights added that the drone strike had occurred at approximately 7:00pm the night before on agricultural land behind a home.
Both Al Mezan and Palestinian Centre for Human Rights reported that Al-Tawashi’s body wasn’t found until the morning after he was killed. However, multiple sources, including @uunionnews and @GazaNewsOfficia reported that “a martyr and 3 injuries arrived at Al-Aqsa Hospital after targeting in Deir al-Balah” on May 13th. It is unclear if this is the same incident.
Al Qassam Brigades posted a memorial on their website for Mohamed Khaled Al-Tawashi, who they identified as a “Mujahid Qassami”. @SafaPs also tweeted that a resistance site was bombed in Deir al-Balah. None of the sources referred to Al-Tawashi as a civilian.
All of the sources attribute the strikes to Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces released a statement that “17:25 – IDF aircraft attack the operational apartment of the deputy commander of Hamas’ Jabalya battalion in the northern Gaza Strip, from which the latest attacks were conducted. In addition, the IDF attacked three other operational apartments, of a company commander in the Sajaiya battalion in the northern Gaza Strip, a company commander in Shabura in the northern Gaza Strip and a company commander in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.”

Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas reached a ceasefire early on Friday after two weeks of violence that have left hundreds dead and thousands more injured across the region. The hostilities began amid Israeli authorities’ crackdown on Palestinians in Jerusalem, first in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, then at al-Aqsa Mosque.
According to the latest official information from Palestinian and Israeli sources, at least 292 people were been killed between 7 and 21 May, including at least 71 children and 45 women.
Explained: Why did Israel bomb Gaza?
The vast majority were Palestinian: Israeli air strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip killed at least 248 Palestinians, while a further 29 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Another two Palestinian citizens of Israel have been reported killed by Israeli fire. In Israel, 12 people have been reported killed by rockets launched from Gaza by Hamas, among them two children, two Palestinian citizens of Israel, two Thai citizens, and one Indian national. One person was also killed by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon during a protest in solidarity with Palestinians.
During the past two weeks, Middle East Eye has compiled a list of names, ages and genders of those killed, using available information from official Palestinian and Israeli sources, including the Gaza Ministry of Health, and MEE’s own reporting on the ground.
This list is far from exhaustive. The chaos that has hit the region means that many people have yet to be publicly identified; for some – especially in Gaza – the date of death has yet to be released. It has not yet been possible to ascertain exactly which of those killed in Gaza were Hamas and Islamic Jihad members, though the vast majority are thought to be civilians.

Martyr Mujahid/ Muhammad Khalid Omar Al-Tawashi: On the Path of Jihad, Life is Sweet
Al-Qassam - Special:
Because Jerusalem is the eternal compass of the nation, because Al-Aqsa is the site of our Prophet's Night Journey, and because Palestine is the gateway to heaven, the land of our ancestors, and the cradle of all that is pure, sacrifices befitting every revolutionary were necessary. The mujahideen gave their most precious possessions for this cause, offering their lives to attain worldly glory and the honor of the Hereafter. Among these heroic martyrs is our martyr, the engineer Muhammad Khalid Al-Tawashi, who was martyred in a Zionist bombing during the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem.
Birth and Upbringing
Our martyr, the Qassam fighter Muhammad Khalid Omar Al-Tawashi, was born in Deir al-Balah on February 8, 2000. He grew up in a family devoted to the struggle and committed to the teachings of Islam. He was raised with noble morals, and was devoted to his parents, showing them kindness, compassion, and obedience from a young age. He was always eager to fulfill their requests. He was also known for his kindness and deep love for his brothers and sisters, frequently bringing gifts to his sisters to bring them joy. Muhammad was known for his genuine smile and calm demeanor. He was polite, well-mannered, and beloved by his relatives and neighbors. He participated in all their celebrations, readily offering help and assistance with love, sincerity, and purity. He was sociable in his interactions and earned the respect of everyone around him, a fact attested to by all who knew him.
His Education
Muhammad received his primary education at Deir al-Balah Elementary School, and completed his preparatory and secondary education at Abdul Karim al-Aklouk Basic School for Boys. During this period, our martyr was exceptionally diligent in his studies, distinguished among his classmates, and beloved by both students and teachers. He maintained a strong presence, consistently participating in the school radio and presenting various religious programs with members of the Islamic Bloc. After graduating from high school with a scientific specialization, Muhammad enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Palestine to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Engineering. During this time, he focused on developing his scientific and practical skills, dedicating most of his time to studying and attending various academic seminars, both in person and online. His activism within the Islamic Bloc was particularly prominent, as he actively participated in its activities and encouraged other young people to do the same. Throughout this period, he was a role model for his impeccable manners and noble character. It is not known that he had any conflicts with anyone, due to his good morals, kind heart, patience, and forbearance, which made him beloved by all.
The Path of Da'wah
Our martyr was attached to the mosque from a young age, always keen to perform his religious duties in congregation, especially the Fajr prayer. He frequented the mosque in the Old City and grew up with his peers in circles of remembrance and Quranic study. He was cheerful, known for his genuine smile, and very popular among the mosque's youth. He was also eager to attend religious seminars. Muhammad joined the ranks of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in 2016, and became involved in its various activities. He worked in the public outreach department and actively participated with the mosque community in mass rallies and various activities. He was obedient to his leadership and committed to all the tasks assigned to him. Our martyr was also active in the Islamic Bloc.
In the ranks of the Qassam Brigades
Our Qassam martyr, Muhammad, loved jihad from an early age, eager to be at the forefront, longing for martyrdom in the cause of God Almighty, carrying the concerns of his homeland and his religion. He fulfilled his wish by joining the ranks of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, in 2017, at a young age. From the moment he joined the Qassam Brigades, he was an obedient and committed soldier, possessing high aspirations. He underwent numerous military training courses and was a truly dedicated mujahid, seeking to serve his religion and his homeland. He was known for his intense love of guard duty, often spending double the required days to maximize his reward, and he was always keen to be stationed on the front lines along the eastern border. Despite his young age, our martyr Muhammad was entrusted with leading a Qassam unit due to his exceptional military and physical abilities. He participated in many honorable jihadist operations, working in the Qassam tunnels, and he and his brothers made a significant contribution to developing simulation and training programs. Muhammad was known for his keen security sense and his ability to keep secrets. During a memorial service for the martyred commander Jumaa al-Tahla, the Qassam Brigades unveiled their cyber weapon, one of their most important and secretive weapons. The martyr Muhammad was a member of this unit and served within its ranks throughout his jihadist career.
His Martyrdom: Our martyr sensed his impending death when he dreamt that he was being targeted by Zionist reconnaissance aircraft. He informed his fiancée of this before his martyrdom. During the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem, on May 13, 2021, he was directly targeted by Zionist enemy aircraft, and he ascended to martyrdom after a life dedicated to jihad and sacrifice. Among the miracles bestowed upon him was a dream one of his friends had after his martyrdom. In the dream, our martyr Muhammad appeared to him dressed in white, smiling and very happy, and told him that God Almighty had honored him with a great blessing.
