At approximately 3.10 pm on May 10th 2023, an Israeli warplane allegedly fired one missile on a group of citizens in the Abu Halawa area of al-Shoka, east of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, killing two civilians and injuring between one and three others.

According to Wafa news, medical sources at the Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah identified the two victims who were killed as Ayman Karam Hussein Saidam, 26-27, a resident of the al-Brazil neighbourhood, Rafah, and Alam al-Din Sameer Tawfiq Abdel Aziz, 23, a resident of the al-Salam neighbourhood, Rafah. The al-Mezan Center for Human Rights also reported two injured, while Shehab News put the number of wounded up to three and Mubasher Al Jazeera put the number of injured at one, specifying that the injury was “critical.”

Shehab News identified the location of the strike as  the Al-Taknah area, east of the city and Al Mayadeen specified that the incident occurred in agricultural lands.

The Israeli Defense Forces released a statement that “Earlier today, an IDF aircraft targeted a military post belonging to the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the city of Rafah. This afternoon, mortar shells were launched from the area of the military post toward Israeli territory.”
