On May 11, 2023, a residential building in Hamad Town, Gaza, was hit by an aerial bombardment directed by Israeli forces. According to reports, three militants were killed as a result of this action, including a leader of the Al-Quds Brigade. In addition, seven civilians were reported to have been injured, including a child and three women.
In its reporting concerning this event, the Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights stated, “At approximately 1:20 a.m. today, Thursday, 11/5/2023, warplanes bombed a residential apartment located on the fifth floor of a residential building in Hamad Town, west of Khan Yunis, killing three people: Ali Hassan Muhammad Ghali. (50 years old), a leader in the Al-Quds Brigades, his brother Mahmoud (33 years old), and Mahmoud Walid Muhammad Abdel Jawad (26 years old).” On the number of wounded, the Centre reported, “The bombing led to widespread destruction in the targeted apartment and the apartments adjacent to it, and 7 others were injured in the accident, including 3 women and a child.”
In a statement given following this incident, the IDF, reported these events in the following terms, “During the night, IDF fighter jets targeted Ali Ghali, the commander of the rocket launching force of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the Gaza, who was in a hideout apartment in Khan Yunis. Reports were received regarding two additional Islamic Jihad terrorist organization operatives who stayed with him in the hideout apartment who were also targeted.”
Following this event, a number of outlets, including Palestine Online and Al Jazeera, published photographs of the building in which the reported casualties occurred. These appear to show that the upper floors sustained heavy damage.
