Shortly before 2:17 am on May 12, 2023 a suspected Israeli airstrike destroyed a house in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood of Gaza City, injuring between two to three civilians including one child.
Multiple social media and journalistic outlets reported on May 12 that an Israeli airstrike had hit the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood and destroyed a house belonging to the Yassin family. Shehab claimed that two “citizens” were injured in Al-Zaytoun. A correspondent for Quds Press reported that Israeli planes had “bombed a house belonging to the ‘Yassin family’ in the ‘Zeitoun’ neighborhood, south of Gaza City, consisting of several floors.” This correspondent claimed that the attack “injured three Palestinians, who were taken to the Al-Shifa complex in Gaza.” Voice of Palestine Radio reported that “3 injuries, including a child, arrived at Al-Shifa Hospital, as a result of the occupation’s bombing of Al-Zaytoun neighborhood.” No known source has provided further identifying information about any of these injured people. It is not clear from known sources if any or all of those injured in this strike were members of the Yassin family. No Palestinian militant organization has publicly announced any of its members were injured in this strike.
Safa’s correspondent first reported the destruction of a house in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood at 02:17 local time. Fateh-Voice announced the strike at 02:18 but described its location as “agricultural land in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood.” Neither of these reports mention the number or identities of the injured.
Elzyton2 posted photos to Facebook on May 12 showing the rubble of the house illuminated by flashlight and the arrival of a Red Crescent ambulance.
Israel has not publicly commented on this strike.
