On 9th May 2022, it was reported that a four-year old Palestinian boy, Tamim Daoud, died due to a heart attack reported to be triggered by an Israeli airstrike near his home in Al-Remal neighbourhood in the centre of the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
The strike hit a residential building next to Tamim’s house at 2am on Tuesday 9th May, waking up Tamim who became increasingly terrified. The impact of the strike had shattered all windows in Tamim’s building.
Tamim’s father, Mohammed Daoud told the Middle East Eye that Tamim began to have a panic attack as a result of the strike, which led him to have breathing difficulties.
Tamim experienced another panic attack and further breathing difficulties five hours later, leading his father to take him to hospital.
Mohammed said Tamim was transferred to the intensive care unit where he received treatment, but his heartbeat was very weak and he was pronounced dead at dawn.
Tamim had undergone open-heart surgery at six-months old in the West Bank. The impact of the strike is thought to have triggered complications with Tamim’s heart and breathing.
