Airwars assessment
At least one civilian, a child, was killed and two other children were injured in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes on the town of Ebleen on June 8, 2021.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR) reported that “the shelling resulting in the death of one child and the injury of two others in addition to a severe damage to the house” and the town that was hit was “included within the areas of the ceasefire agreement reached following consultations between the Turkish and Russian presidents, which came into effect on March 6, 2020.”
The Syria TV correspondent said that “the regime bombed a house for the Al-Shughari family in the village of Ibilin in Jabal Al-Zawiya, which led to the death of a child and the injury of his two brothers to varying degrees, while the children’s parents were not subjected to any injuries.”
SN4HR also named the child killed as Amr Belal Sheghri and identified both of the other civilians injured as being children as well.
A tweet from @Talhamwi3 named the other siblings that were injured: Abdel-Ghani Bilal Al-Shugry, an injured child and Saif Bilal Al-Shugry, an injured child. A video posted alongside the names also shows the injured children being rescued by White Helmets.
Syrian Civil Defense added that the children killed and wounded were from the same family but blamed the regime for being responsible for the strikes.
According to Step News, both artillery and missiles were used in the attack and the regime was the force responsible for the “death of a girl and the wounding of others from one family in the village of Ablin in Jabal al-Zawiya.”
Sources were contested as to whether Russia or the regime was responsible for the strikes. Nedaa News blamed the regime but identified that “the regime forces used modern and highly destructive Russian missiles, during their bombardment of the villages of Jabal al-Zawiya, in conjunction with a heavy movement of Russian reconnaissance aircraft.” Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed Russia while the majority of other sources blamed the regime.
The incident occured in the morning.
