Airwars assessment
Late in the evening on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, one unnamed civilian was reportedly injured as a result of airstrikes with contested responsibility allegedly perpetrated by Syrian regime forces and/or Russian military and/or Iranian militias. The incident reportedly occurred in Korin in the southern countryside of Idlib.
The @SyriaCivilDefe (or ‘White Helmets’) reported that one civilian was injured as a result of artillery shelling carried out by the Syrian regime. Twitter/X users @globalJSN, @Rian_almasri and Facebook user @Saroti also reported on the civilian injury. @Imad, also on Facebook, uploaded photos depicting the aftermath of a car crash during the incident, however, the post did not specify if there were any resulting casualties and if that was directly related to the incident.
Twitter/X user @Rian_almasri shared a video of the explosion, which was filmed by a surveillance camera.
The post by @SyriaCivilDefe included photographic evidence of the material damage received by buildings at the location. It showed areas of brickwork reduced to rubble and damaged cars.
Where sources attributed the strike to a belligerent, the Syrian regime forces and Russian military were named as responsible. However, multiple sources highlighted the involvement of Iranian-backed militias in supporting the Russian military. Lastly, the use of reconnaissance aircraft was noted multiple times.
The incident occured in the evening.
