Airwars assessment

At least five and as many as 11 civilians, including three children were killed by air raids carried out on August 10th in Maarat al Numan, local media reported. Additionally, ten to 30 other civilians were wounded from the air raids.The Shaam News Network identified the planes as being Russian warplanes. However, Alsouria and @Maaramc12 attributed the event to the Assad regime.

Sources also reported that between three and five air raids were carried out against the city of Maarat al Numan.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “on Wednesday 10 August 2016, alleged Russian warplanes fired missiles on the outskirts of Souq al Hal in the southeastern parts of Ma’aret Al Nu’man, located in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate and is under the control of armed opposition factions. As a result, six individuals were killed including three children. Additionally, 20 others were wounded.”

Almarra provided a video that showed the fires that were caused by the air raids, including a vehicle engulfed in flames. Images by Syria.news also depicted the destruction of a marketplace. In addition, graphic images posted by @alMarraToday showed a child who was struck in the head during the air raid under the pretext that he was a terrorist.
