Airwars assessment
A young girl, named as Bisan Hasan al Atrash, died and five or six other civilians were wounded in alleged Russian or Syrian regime air or artillery strikes on Baydar Shamsou, local media reported.
In a video posted by Baladi News, a member of the White Helmets says that “warplanes raided the village of Baydar Shamsou, leading to the death of a girl and wounding two men and two women and a child. There was also a great deal of destruction to houses.” Baladi pointed to regime warplanes. Al Ghadal Soury reported that two children had been injured.
According to an Orient TV video post, “a child was killed and more than six civilians were injured as Russian air force planes targeted the village of Baydar Shamsou. A resident of the village said ‘’all the village’s residents are farmers. There is no base, or headquarters of anything here… Just farmers.’’’
Several sources, among which the Syrian Network for Human Rights and OrientTV, blamed Russian warplanes for the shelling, whereas others, such as Shaam News Network, blamed both Russia and the Syrian regime.
Whereas nearly all sources reported airstrikes, Shaam News Network also reported artillery strikes on the village. Ebaa News wrote that the village was targeted during the night, but both Anadolu Agency and SyrianNoor reported that the incident occured in the morning.
Al Ghadal Soury gave some context, reporting on May 4th: “For the fifth day in a row, the regime and its allies have been targeting the towns and villages of Idlib and its surrounding areas under the control of the opposition factions. Russian warplanes are carrying out dozens of raids, while the regime’s helicopters have been dropping dozens of explosive barrels in different areas of the region, killing and wounding dozens of civilians in the past few days.”
The local time of the incident is unknown.
