Airwars assessment
Local sources reported that a civilian was killed and two volunteers for the Syrian Civil Defense were injured in alleged Russian or Syrian regime double airstrikes on the village of Kafar Awaid in the area of Ma’arat Al Nu’man on May 31st, 2019.
@HalabTodayTV reported that “a civilian was killed and others were wounded as a result of airstrikes by Russian warplanes on the town of Kafar Awaid in the southern Idlib countryside.” According to @MENAMMONITOR, the warplanes struck with “rockets loaded with cluster bombs”.
A Facebook page for Kafar Awaid reported that Mustafa Al Zaloukh had died as a result of airstrikes.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights wrote that two Syrian Civil Defence volunteers were wounded in a double airstrike when the Syrian regime “fixed-wing warplanes” fired missiles near the Civil Defense team while they were aiding the injured of an earlier bombing of the village by the same forces. The victims were identified as Mustafa Hasan Meghlaj and Walid Hasan Kbaish.
In a later post, the SNHR added that the missiles struck near Abdul Qader Baqader Mosque in Kafr Aweed, partially destroying its building.
Shaam News claimed that the attack was carried out in collaboration with the Russian Air Force.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
