Airwars assessment
One to two civilians were reported killed in airstrikes on Ma`arat Al Nu`man, Idlib, on August 17th.
Shaam News reported that “two martyrs fell in Ma`arat al-Nu’man” as a result of “Assad’s and Russia’s warplanes and helicopters launch[ing] dozens of airstrikes” on a number of locations.
Meanwhile, Baladi News stated that “warplanes bombed the city of “Maarat al-Nu’man” in the southern countryside of Idlib, which led to the rise of a civilian and injured others”.
According to a post from Halfaya Media Center, “the young Tamam Hassan Hasoubi from the displaced city of Halfaya” was killed “due to the brutal bombing by the warplanes of the Russian occupation militia on the city of Maarat al-Nu’man.”
A video posted by Syrian Civil Defense shows the dust cloud caused by the airstrike and members of the civil defense team running towards the explosion and an image shows a civil defense fire truck “after it was targeted by the warplanes with a double air strike, and the volunteers survived today.”
Sources named both Russian forces and the Syrian regime in reports of the incident.
