Airwars assessment

At least one civilian, a child, was killed and six other civilians were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes against the Al-Iman Hospital in the town of Urma Al-Kubra on August 31, 2019.

Russian airstrikes allegedly struck the Al-Iman Hospital for children and women in the town of Urma Al-Kubra in western Aleppo in the middle of the night. Step News Agency reported six raids using “vacuum missiles”, otherwise described as “high explosive missiles” by SMART News Agency.

According to SMART, a child was killed and three other civilians were injured while Step News Agency reported on a total of six injured civilians.

The Syrian Civil Defense similarly reported on six injured civilians and reported that most of them were children, while in a separate post adding that the victims include ” pregnant women and newborns”. Enab Baladi identified those injured as being “six medical staff”.

A tweet by @EyadHoms20 identified ” six air strikes with vacuum missiles” as striking Al Iman Hospital. In an image that they posted, a baby is being treated by White Helmets for injuries.

According to a tweet from @ZlOZNMaJaSq4JK9, “Six missiles penetrated the tunnels, which led to the hospital being out of service.” Enab Baladi identified “five high-explosive concussion missiles”.

Local sources told Alaraby that “the medical staff and civil defense at the hospital evacuated the patients to another place.”

Images posted by Firat News Agency showed the destruction to the hospital caused by the strikes.

@alahmed_nasser tweeted that “the air force in the Syrian army targets the movements of militants near the Al-Iman Hospital in the town of Urem Al-Kubra in the western countryside of Aleppo, which resulted in a number of wounded, including 3 White Helmets.”

The majority of sources that reported on the incident attributed the strike to Russian forces. However, Alaraby blamed the regime for carrying out the attack.

The incident occured around midnight.
