Airwars assessment
Up to 16 civilians, including seven children, were killed and 33 civilians were injured in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on Al Sinaa (commercial) neighborhood of Idlib city on February 11th, 2020, according to local sources.
The Syrian Civil Defence in Idlib reported that “12 people were killed and 33 others injured so far, by air raids that targeted the city centre and the industrial zone”. The SCD reported the strikes were carried out by the Syrian regime. SMART News reported that an administrator in Clinics hospital in Idlib city stated that “the regime’s warplanes launched raids on Jala’ Street and the industrial zone in the city, killing 16 civilians, including seven children, and wounding 33 others, including women and children.”
There were various reports about the number of dead and wounded in the Al Sinaa neighborhood within Idlib. Syria Today News reported twelve civilians killed with thirty wounded and noted that the strikes were carried out by planes belonging to the Assad regime. The report of twelve dead surpassed an earlier report from Alaraby TV that stated that nine individuals were killed. Local witnesses were consistent in their reports of twelve dead civilians, with the number of injured ranging between thirty and thirty-three. Earlier in the day, Aljzeera News as well as the Center for Documentation of Violations in Syria reported that thirteen individuals had been killed, but that was not confirmed, and the total of twelve dead was accepted as the correct death toll. Eight of the victims were able to be identified and their names are listed here: Kinan Haitham Humaidan, 14; Muhammad Haitham Humaidan, 10; Ayman Al-Khalaf, 16; Muhammad Nabaa, 16; Alaa Rahabi, 23; Abdullah sayed issa, 33; Jamil Alwan, 16; Ahmed Maher.
One body was not named, and three others could not be identified.
The Syrian Civil Defense stated that the neighborhood no military purpose and was only the home of civilians.
Edlib Media Center wrote that the airstrikes occurred after a Syrian regime helicopter was shot down in Idlib countryside, killing three pilots.
The incident occured in the afternoon.
