On Sunday, 1st December 2024, the Syrian Civil Defense volunteer Suleiman Muhammad Suleiman Al-Hariri was killed while carrying out humanitarian missions by an airstrike allegedly perpetrated by the Russian military and/or Syrian regime forces on the city of Aleppo in northern Syria.
A Facebook post by Toledo city post named Suleiman Muhammad Suleiman Al-Hariri, a volunteer of the Syrian Civil Defence (also known as “White Helmets”), as a “martyr.” His death was reported by multiple sources, including a tweet by user @Re0Xp8FiZD8OMCJ, which gave more details about the man, claiming he came from the city of Taldou and was one of the “revolutionary activists” there.
The White Helmets confirmed in a Facebook post that he was volunteering when he was killed by the Russian and/or Syrian regime forces airstrike, and included photos of his wake where his body is being carried to its final resting place. The post reads, “They carry him on their shoulders, escorting him to his final resting place, bidding him farewell without him hearing their words. Farewell and burial of the body of volunteer “Suleiman Muhammad Suleiman Al-Hariri,” who was martyred while carrying out humanitarian missions following airstrikes by regime and Russian aircraft. Our condolences to his family, and we ask God to have mercy on him and forgive him.”
Suleiman’s cousin, Jala Suliman, mourned his death in a Facebook post, adding his image. He was a young man with a thick, dark beard dressed in a grey shirt.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all the sources agreed that the responsibility for the strike was with the Syrian regime and/or the Russian military.
