Airwars assessment
On the morning of Sunday, 14th January 2024, an alleged aerial bombardment by a Turkish drone hit a residential house in the village of Karbatli, south of Ad-Darbasiyah in the Hassakah countryside, Syria. These attacks resulted in the injury of two small children and their mother.
Facebook posts by ANHA news and Shiyar H Ahmad reported that the destroyed house belonged to a citizen named Khaled Heso. His wife Ahlam Abdel Razzaq Ramo was injured alongside their son Jan Khaled Heso (four years old), who was slightly injured, and their son Rojan Khaled Heso (three years old) who was injured by shrapnel in the head. The children were receiving treatment in the hospital in the city of Hasakah.
Shiyar Ahmad shared the images of the injured Ahlam on a hospital bed with her leg and hands bandaged and of two small crying boys, her sons, one of them with a bandaged head. Nesrin Ehmad also posted images of the woman and one of the boys being treated by the medical staff.
ANHA news posted images showing the broken wall and glasses in the house of Khaled Heso. Ivan Hassib shared an image of the house being on fire after the bombardment on Facebook, while Esrin Ehmad posted an image of a huge cloud of smoke rising over the house.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that this incident was part of a continued policy of targeting public facilities and infrastructure owned by Syrian citizens within the Syrian territory, allegedly committed by the Turkish military.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Turkish military.
