On Sunday, January 14th, 2024, two workers of the Abdullah Derbas (Al-Khairat) mill in the village of Sanjak Khalil in the district of Amouda (Amoda) on the road to the city of Hassakah in northeastern Syria were injured in a drone strike allegedly perpetrated by the Turkish military. Orkes FM posted the images of the mill that was hit by a strike.
According to the post by Shiyar H Ahmad, 45-year-old man Hussein Ayesh Hussein suffered injuries to the knee and pelvis area, while 23-year-old man Muhammad Khair Ahmed Sheikhi sustained injuries to the thigh and left hand. They both received treatment in a hospital in the city of Qamishlo, as reported by the Victims Documentation Center. Shiyar H Ahmad and VDC News shared images of the two injured men lying on hospital beds.
Abdullah Derbas, owner of the mill that was built in 2014, told Hawar News that “Al-Khairat Mill produced more than 50 tons of flour daily, and was a source of livelihood for more than 20 families, the majority of whom were from Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, and Hasaka.” Derbas also explained that the damage from the bombing is “estimated at approximately 750 million Syrian pounds, equivalent to 50,000 US dollars.”
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Turkish military.
