Airwars assessment
On the morning of Monday, January 15th, 2024, two civilian men were moderately injured as a result of an alleged drone strike launched by the Turkish military on the Dirbasiye Power Station (alternatively spelled as Al-Darbasiyah), in the Hassakah countryside, Syria, which also resulted in the outage of the two transformers of the station.
SANA correspondent in Al-Hasakah reported on January 15th that the Al-Darbasiyah electricity transfer station was out of service as a result of the strike. Gathering of people of Hasaka and Syria News Network Facebook accounts shared images of the black smoke rising over the station that had caught on fire and of the damaged transformers. Syria News Network also added an image of the destruction inside the premises of the station.
Miscellaneous News Facebook account also shared the images taken by Olfa Haj Mansour showing the transformers damaged by fire and broken glass in a building belonging to the station.
Khabat club Facebook account reported that the station’s employees and administrators of the Khabat Sports Club, Caprine Farho and Ahmed Haj Fattah, were taken to the Martyr Khabat Hospital in the city of Al-Darbasiyah for treatment. Both men in their 40s are seen lying on hospital beds in the images attached to the post. Dirbasiy Media Center wished speedy recovery to the injured men in its Facebook post.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Turkish military.
