In the afternoon of Monday, 9th September 2024, artillery shelling allegedly perpetrated by the Turkish military struck a civilian house in the village of Tanb in the Sharan district, northern countryside of Aleppo, Syria, injuring two children and an older woman. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an adult civilian was also killed, but there was no further information about their name, age or gender.
Two siblings – four-year-old Zainab Faisal Junaid and six-year-old Ahmed Faisal Junaid – were injured as a result of the artillery shelling. A 60-year-old woman named Faten Faisal Sheikh Hamdo was also injured. Beyond references to an “adult martyr” made by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Ronahti TV News, there was no further information on any deceased individual.
Efrin Human Rights reported on Facebook that “the injured were transferred to the hospital in the city of Tal Rifaat to receive treatment.” Both Roj Ali News and Der Jamal News posted two images of injured children, one little girl (presumably Zainab) with bandages around both of her hands, and another presumably of Ahmed, with multiple bandages around both of his arms. While Der Jamal News reported those wounded had received “varying injuries”, there was no further reportage on the severity of Faten’s wounds.
Multiple sources reported that the Turkish military perpetrated the artillery shelling, while others stated that it was the Turkish military and their loyal factions. Der Jamal News posted on Facebook that “the Turkish occupation targeted a civilian house in the village of Tanb with a guided missile.” ANF News reported, “The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries targeted a house in the village of Tanb.” Furthermore, Efrin Human Rights reported that “The shelling coincided with the targeting of the village with a suicide drone, without information about the extent of the damage.”
Roj Ali News additionally posted an image of fragments of an artillery shell. Der Jamal News posted a photo of a hole through a wall in a house.
