Airwars Assessment
On Saturday, October 5, 2024, two civilians from the same family, Hussein al-Kasoum (22) and Jassim al-Kasoum (40), were injured in a missile attack allegedly carried out by the Turkish military and its allied forces. The attack hit the village of al-Jarad, located north of Manbij in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, Syria, while the victims were planting trees on their agricultural land.
According to a report by Hawar News, the incident involved a thermal missile that struck the two men. Hussein al-Kasoum sustained a fracture in his right elbow, while Jassim al-Kasoum suffered shrapnel injuries to his head, right thigh, and right forearm. Both men were transported to hospitals in Manbij for treatment, and their conditions were described as requiring medical attention. A video shared by Ein Issa News shows a man – most likely Hussein – with a cast on his arm. Though the video is imprinted with the logo of the Manbij Military Council, both men were described by the Council as “civilians”.
Where the sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed responsibility for the attack to the Turkish military.
