On the evening of Saturday, January 25, 2025, two civilians, including a young man, were reportedly killed and 21 identified civilians, including at least two women, were injured in an alleged Turkish drone attack which hit a gathering of civilians who were protesting against the ongoing Turkish attacks near the Tishreen Dam located in the vicinity of Manbij, east of Aleppo, Syria.
Initially, the correspondent of Hawar News reported a number of injuries among the protesters. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported two deaths and 10 injuries resulting from the strike, while Al Sharq.news-Syria reported 12 injuries, referring to the Kurdish SDF.
Hawar News reported the injury toll of 21, providing the names of all the injured: Mahmoud Muhammad Abdi, Hussein Ahmed, Jowan Marouf, Lazkin Mustafa, Yassin Shweish, Nourshan Afrin, Imran, Herkul, Munir, Imad Dawoud Muhammad, Ali Kamel Muslim, Ahmed Tammo, Mustafa Muhammad Othman, Khaled Muhammad Abdi, Ismail Hussein, Muhammad Shaheen, Walid Muhammad Hussein, Dalil Mustafa Ahmed, Sabah Khalil, Hilal Al-Omar, and Osama Khalaf Ali.
The media also noted that the injured were transferred to hospitals in Raqqa, Tabqa and Kobani to receive treatment. The post was accompanied by an image of an injured woman in a long green dress and a beige hijab, lying on a hospital bed and making a victory sign.
Hawar News reported that the Committee of the Families of the Martyrs in North and East Syria identified the protester who had been killed in the strike as 21-year-old Muhammad Khalil Hamou, who was born in Raqqa on January 1, 2004. ANF News also added his image – he was a young man with short dark hair and a dark trimmed beard portrayed against the backdrop of the flag of the Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria.
ANHA News and Kobani Al Hadath on Facebook added a video to their reports on the incident. In the beginning, the video depicts a group of men rushing downstairs with a wounded man being transported on a stretcher. Later on, the video featured a woman in a flowery dress and a white hijab who was injured in her stomach. She was sitting in a hospital waiting to be treated.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Turkish military.
