In the village of Asthma, located in the western countryside of Kobani (Ayn al-Arab), Syria, an alleged Turkish airplane bombed a house that belonged to Jamal Ibrahim, destroying it to rubble, on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The incident resulted in injuries to ten individuals, including two women and seven children. Seven of the individuals who were injured were members of Jamal Ibrahim’s family and were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Hawar News documented the names of the ten civilians who were injured as a result of the incident. They are listed as: Ahmed Ibrahim Darwish, 46 years old; Sabah Suleiman Ismail, 26 years old; Laila Suleiman Hassan, 35 years old; Ghazal Jamal Darwish, two years old; Youssef Jamal Darwish, four years old; Avin Suleiman Ismail, two years old; Sirin Suleiman Ismail, five years old; Muhammad Jamal Darwish, eight years old; Arin Jamal Darwish, one year old, and Amina Jamal Darwish, 13 years old. The report by Hawar News contained a selection of six photos that depicted the injuries that some of the children sustained. There was a range of ages shown in the photos, but all of the children were very young. ANF News also reported on the incident, using the information provided by Hawar News’ correspondent. A report by ROJ News also included a photo of an injured individual receiving treatment from medical personnel inside a hospital.
Separately, a Facebook post by user @Kobani Al Hadath included a selection of photographs that showed the extent of the injuries received by the civilians. Many of the pictured children were covered in dust and dirt as a result of the collapsed house and rubble. A video posted on Facebook by @Independent News Team showed several men standing outside the location of the incident, covered in dust, before the camera panned to a shocked young boy who was also covered in dust. The video was accompanied by a photograph of a young girl wrapped up in a blanket, who appeared dusty and traumatised. A second video uploaded on Facebook by @Issmat Othaman depicted a second angle of the aftermath and showed a man being escorted out of the rubble as crowds gathered around in an attempt to assist the injured.
SOHR noted that the incident aligned with an increased Turkish military presence in northern and eastern Syria, especially around the Tishrin Dam. Arta.fm on Facebook reported that the house was completely destroyed, and many civilians decided to flee to neighbouring villages or to the city of Kobani to avoid any further attacks.
Due to the range of sources and video footage taken at the scene, this incident has been graded as “fair.”
