On the evening of Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Nawar Mahmoud Al-Hanano, a young boy, was killed by sniper fire allegedly from the SDF militia in the village of Al-Olashli, Al Bab, east of Aleppo, Syria. The sniper attack occurred near the Western Mosque as civilians were leaving following Tarawih prayers during Ramadan.
Twitter user @Wolveri07681751 shared a graphic picture of the victim of the attack, where we see a close-up of a young boy’s face and upper body, which appear lifeless. His eyes are partially open, staring blankly into the distance, with no visible signs of life and adult’s hand gently rests on the boy’s forehead, possibly a relative.
Radyo Sada El Furat’s Facebook account shared an image where the Syrian Civil Defense (also known as “White Helmets”) volunteers were transporting the body of Nawar in an ambulance. Ayman Ali’s Facebook account shared a picture of the village where the incident happened, with brown brick houses and piles of rubble on the ground.
Where sources identified the belligerent, most of the sources, including Syrian Civil Defence, and social media users claimed the sniper fire came from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Some sources alleged that the shooting was coming from the areas of joint control of the Syrian regime forces and the SDF, but none of the sources directly attributed the responsibility for this incident to the Syrian regime.
The incident occured in the evening.
