In the evening of Thursday, May 9th, 2024, a man and child were moderately injured as a result of the alleged bombing which originated from the areas jointly controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces and Syrian regime forces. The casualties took place in the village of Sheikh Nasser in the al-Bab area in the countryside to the east of Aleppo, Syria.
The Syrian Civil Defense organisation reported on Facebook that “a man and child were moderately injured as a result of mortar and missile shelling coming from areas under the joint control of the regime forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces”. Attached to the post was an image of a wounded man or child with dark curly hair dressed in a green shirt and grey trousers receiving treatment in the ambulance.
At the time of writing, there was no further information regarding the status of the citizens who were reportedly injured in the shelling. The range of civilian casualties was consistent across all other sources that reported on the incident.
@SyriaCivilDefe also tweeted images that allegedly showed the aftermath of the bombing. The images depicted pieces of spent shells and areas where shelling had occurred. Frequently, the sources did not outwardly identify a belligerent, instead, pointing to the origin of the shelling being an area under joint control of the Syrian Democratic Forces and government forces.
Based on the sources reporting on the strike status and civilian harm, both the strike status and the civilian harm status have been graded as “contested”.
