On Thursday, April 9, 2026, an alleged Iranian attack on the Saudi Energy Company killed a 44-year-old Saudi national, Jarrah Muhammad al-Shaalan al-Khalidi, who was working at the energy facility. Additionally, the attacks on multiple objects of the energy infrastructure of Saudi Arabia including in Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Yanbu the same day reportedly injured seven civilians, also employees of the Saudi Energy Company.
Jarrah Muhammad al-Shaalan al-Khalidi was killed while performing his duties in industrial security at an energy facility. He was a resident of Anik in the Qatif Governorate. @Alwatan Newspaper, reporting on his death, added an image of Jarrah wearing a working uniform and white helmet. At least one source specified that Jarrah had been killed while working in the Eastern Province.
The Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia mourned the loss of Jarrah in an official tribute, calling him a “son of the nation and a martyr of duty.” The Ministry concluded with the religious prayers: “We ask God to have mercy on him, accept him among the martyrs, grant him a place in Paradise, and give his family and loved ones patience and solace.”
The Okaz newspaper reported that the funeral prayer was held for the deceased on Tuesday afternoon at Al-Furqan Mosque in Dammam, amidst “a moving gathering of his family and loved ones, who bid him farewell with prayers and supplications.” The newspaper quoted Mohammed Al-Yami who commended the life path of Jarrah: “Martyr Jarrah Al-Khaldi has passed on, leaving behind a legacy brimming with generosity and a shining example of a man who chose to be on the front lines, defending his homeland’s security, writing with his blood a story of loyalty that will never be forgotten.”
The attacks on the energy infrastructure significantly affected the production capacity of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted an official source at the Ministry of Energy as saying that “vital energy facilities in the Kingdom have been subjected to multiple attacks recently, including oil and gas production, transportation, and refining facilities, as well as petrochemical facilities and the electricity sector in Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Yanbu Industrial City… resulting in the disruption of several operational processes at key facilities within the energy system,” noting that “the Kingdom’s production capacity has decreased by 600,000 barrels per day.”
Where sources identified the belligerent, at least two sources attributed the attack to the Iranian military. However, none of the sources specified what type of attack had occurred – the strike type has been classified as “airstrike and/or artillery” based on the understanding of Iran’s capabilities in the area, but will be updated should additional information be found.
