Amjad Juhjouh, a 28-year-old Palestinian journalist and editor at the Belgium-based European Institute for Training and Development (EUTD), which creates content for websites, and a writer at the pro-Hamas Palestine Now news agency, was killed in Israeli airstrike alongside his pregnant wife – journalist Wafaa Abu Dabaan – their son, and Juhjouh’s brother-in-law, journalist Rizq Abu Shakian, on July 6, 2024, according to media reports and people who spoke to CPJ. Wael Jarwan, a media professor and EUTD team leader in Gaza, described Abu Dabaan and Juhjouh as dedicated hard-working professionals who maintained a clear separation between their personal and professional lives.  "They were very committed, and I had known them since they were students. They invited me to a training course they organized, which sparked our professional relationship. We later collaborated on several media projects," Jarwan said. He added that Abu Dabaan and Juhjouh were not just colleagues but like younger siblings to him.  "They struggled together, both in life and in work," said Jarwan. CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ North America Media Desk in late September 2024, asking for comment on the killing of Juhjouh.  In an exchange that followed, the IDF asked CPJ for the journalists’ IDs and "relevant coordinates," which CPJ explained it could not provide due to research limitations. The IDF then said it could not fully address CPJ’s inquiry due to a lack of "sufficient details."  The IDF said it takes "all operationally feasible measures" to prevent harm to journalists and other civilians, asserting that "many" on CPJ’s list were Hamas members and therefore lawful targets, but did not name the journalists or provide evidence they were Hamas fighters.

Wafaa Abu Dabaan, a 28-year-old Palestinian journalist at Islamic University Radio and the Belgium-based European Institute for Training and Development (EUTD), was five months pregnant with her second child when she and, her husband, Amjad Juhjouh, were killed by an Israeli airstrike on the morning of Saturday, July 6, 2024.  Several family members, including their 9-month-old son and their journalist brother-in-law Rizq Abu Shakian, were also killed in the strike, which hit-Abu Shakian’s home in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to media reports, and several people who spoke to CPJ. Rizq Abu Shakian, a Palestinian media worker and administrator for the pro-Hamas Palestine Now Agency, was killed alongside journalists Wafaa Abu Dabaan and Amjad Juhjouh in an Israeli airstrike on the morning of July 6, 2024, in his home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to media reports and his wife and employer, who spoke to CPJ. Mahmoud Nassar, editor-in-chief of the Palestine Now Agency, told CPJ that Shakian, 27, was a disciplined and kind person. "He was dedicated to his work, and loved order. He had a deep love for his family and a strong passion for life," Nassar said. Hanan Juhjouh. Abu Shakian’s wife and Amjad Juhjouh’s sister, told CPJ that her husband “had been hopeful the war would end soon, but the Israeli occupation shattered that hope.”  CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ North America Media Desk in late September 2024, asking for comment on the killing of Abu Shakian. July 6, 2024, 10:55 AM Jerusalem time Martyr Amjad Jahjouh, a pillar of the Palestine Now Agency, ascended to heaven, God willing, as a result of the Israeli bombing of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. Martyr Amjad Jahjouh was known for his gentle nature, good origins, and good relationships with his colleagues at the agency and with all fellow journalists. He was also renowned for his high professionalism. He produced hundreds of written and photographed journalistic stories during his journalistic work with Palestine Now Agency, where he was close to people's concerns, empathized with their suffering, and was able to convey their voices. As the agency mourns the passing of our dear brother and esteemed colleague, Amjad Jahjouh, we extend our sincere condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues, loved ones, and all who knew him, as well as to the Palestinian press corps, which has lost a courageous patriotic journalist in his passing. We ask God Almighty to accept him into the gardens of bliss and to inspire his family with patience, solace, and good consolation. We say only what pleases our Lord: “To God we belong and to Him we shall return.” There is no power or strength except with God, the Most High, the Almighty.

We only say what pleases our Lord, and the martyrs are taking from our souls little by little. With my broken heart, I offer my condolences to my cousins on the martyrdom of my virtuous, kind cousin, the journalist Wafaa Khaled Abu Dabaan, her husband, her son, her unborn child, and her husband's family. To a soul and a joyful life, and to a Lord who is pleased and not angry, until we meet our beloved ones who have passed away. To God we all return. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.

To God we belong and to Him we shall return. My friend Ahmed Abdel Rahim Jahjouh and a number of his family members were martyred in a treacherous Zionist bombing. I ask God to have mercy on them and forgive them. The last time I met him, he told me, "Most of my university class was martyred." By God, we never knew them to be anything but an educated, struggling family. We only say what pleases our Lord. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. #God_Victory

Umm Al-Waleed... that's how I liked to call her. Our martyr today, dear to my heart, is Wafaa Abu Dabaan. She once worked on my team and was the closest to my heart. We often met, came and went together. We planned together, went to the markets together, bought the same goods, wore the same clothes and brands...!! Death has passed us by many times, Wafaa, but we did not die together! Death chose you, just as it chose my beloved Muhammad, and left me without my loved ones...!! I see it roaming around us today, stealing souls from among us, so the shining lamps go out and the world goes dark. These days will never be forgotten, for they have carved a scar on our hearts that will never heal...!! These days that have passed have aged our souls and deepened their wrinkles. Our fatigue has reached its peak. What comforts us is that no matter how dark the world is, God illuminates it with patience that He bestows upon our hearts. "We carry those we love in the palms of our prayers, my beloved. You now reside in our prayers. You are now between our palms and in the seventh heaven, O martyr. Goodbye, Wafaa. Send my regards to Muhammad and convey to him all my longing, affection, and love. Wafaa departed as a martyr, along with her kind and virtuous husband, Amjad Jahjouh, their newborn child, their unborn child, and her husband's siblings. So, Paradise is filled with friends, loved ones, and relatives. Paradise is filled with the people of Gaza...!! O God, take care of us, for all this fatigue is greater than us.

To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. My sincere condolences to myself and my family on the martyrdom of my cousins. 1- Yousef Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 2- Amjad Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 3- Alaa Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 4- Mohammed Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 5- Ahmed Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 6- Bilal Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 7- Ammar Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 8- Farah Abdel Rahim Jahjouh 9- Walid Amjad Jahjouh (child) 10- Wafaa (wife of Amjad Jahjouh)

May God have mercy on you, my friend and companion in life and path. The honorable friend / Alaa Abdel Rahim Jahjouh, who was martyred in a treacherous Zionist bombing in Nuseirat. I never knew you to be anything but a proud brother, support, and loyal friend. You loved to help everyone. I saw in you ambition, determination, and perseverance. I never knew you to be anything but obedient to God Almighty and to fear Him in everything. That is what consoles me about you. Your departure, by God, breaks my heart with sadness for you, my friend. I ask God to grant you the gardens of bliss. Amen. You were the peg to which I held on to this world. May God have mercy on you, my love of my heart.

To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. The eyes shed tears, the heart grieves, and we are truly saddened by your departure. To Allah belongs all eternity. Allah Almighty said: [O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter among My servants and enter My Paradise.] My cousin, the martyr Rizk Basem Abu Shakyan, has passed away. My uncle's home in the Nuseirat refugee camp was brutally targeted without prior warning. May Allah have mercy on my cousin and the martyrs from his wife's family. May He grant my uncle and his wife patience and solace. Accept our martyr, O Allah. O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, pardon him, and honor his abode. And widen his entrance and wash him with water, snow, and hail. To God we belong and to Him we shall return. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from filth. And let him dwell in a home better than his home and accept him with the martyrs and the righteous... Between us and them! Mountains of corpses, Rivers of blood, Screams and wailing, Between us and them A long-standing vendetta.
