On the night of Tuesday, 7 April 2026, an alleged U.S. and/or Israeli airstrike hit a Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) headquarters/camp and an adjacent security checkpoint in the Sheikh Amer area near Sabaa al-Bour, situated north of Baghdad in Iraq. The attack reportedly resulted in the destruction of military infrastructure, secondary explosions of stored ammunition, and the injury of five security personnel stationed nearby. The security personnel have been classified as civilians.
Official statements from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and local security sources confirmed that an officer holding the rank of Captain—identified in local reports as Captain Murtada Sattar of the Federal Police (Second Division / Fifth Brigade)—along with four other security personnel were injured when the strike hit the joint checkpoint in proximity to the targeted PMF camp near the Sheikh Amer bridge along the Dhiraa Dijla route. Absent information that a police officer is a direct participant in hostilities, they are classified as civilians. Therefore, Mr. Sattar and the four other police personnel have been classified as civilians until further information is found.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli and/or U.S. military.
