Operation Arnon At the conclusion of the complex operation, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi spoke with the commander of the Yamam (Special Police Unit), Brigadier General "T," and expressed his deep appreciation for the courage and heroism displayed by the unit's personnel during the rescue operation and throughout the war. The Chief of Staff and the Yamam commander decided to name the operation "Operation Arnon" in the IDF in recognition of the unit's actions during the war and Arnon's sacrifice. The late Arnon was a courageous and ethical officer and commander who left behind a wife and two children. During the events of October 7th, he led the fighting at the Yad Mordechai Junction, eliminating dozens of terrorists and preventing their advance northward. He then continued to fight at the Nahal Oz base and Kibbutz Be'eri. Arnon was part of the force that stormed the apartment where the hostages were being held. He was critically wounded in the ensuing firefight and later died in the hospital.
