Ramallah - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation, which led to the martyrdom of our colleagues, Mohammed Mansour, a correspondent for Palestine Today Channel, and Hussam Shabat, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher. They were directly targeted in the Gaza Strip, in a horrific war crime aimed at obscuring the truth and terrorizing all those who convey the message of free speech.
This crime is not a passing event or an exception, but rather part of a systematic policy pursued by the occupation to eliminate Palestinian journalists, who have become a direct target of the Israeli killing machine, simply because they are carrying out their duty to convey the truth. Since the beginning of the aggression, more than 206 journalists, both male and female, and media workers have been killed by Israeli bullets and missiles, in the largest bloody massacre committed against media professionals in modern history, amidst suspicious international silence and shameful complicity in the occupation's crimes.
While the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these crimes, it affirms that targeting journalists is a full-fledged war crime that requires immediate action by the international community to put an end to these crimes, which represent a blatant assault on press freedom and human rights.
The Syndicate calls on the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and all international human rights and media organizations to move beyond mere condemnation and denunciation to action. They call on the United Nations to take serious and immediate steps to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes and impose deterrent sanctions that put an end to the policy of impunity that encourages it to persist in its violations.
The Syndicate also affirms that it will continue to document these crimes and pursue the occupation's leaders in all legal and international forums to expose their criminal nature to the world. We affirm that attempts to silence the Palestinian press will not succeed, and that the voice of truth will remain louder than the voice of killing and abuse.
Glory and immortality to the martyrs of the Palestinian press... and freedom to the word, which will not be broken despite the brutality of the occupation.
