After an attack on the town of Dattakhel, many media reports described at least eight alleged militants had been killed. But local paper The News told a different story: ‘Both official and tribal sources said a local villager driving his personal car came under drone attack.’

The News added: ‘Villagers said only body parts of the tribesman were collected from the spot of the attack.’ But a Bureau researcher investigated the strike and found that eight alleged militants – ‘all Pakistanis from local tribes’ – had indeed died in the attack. But so had a civilian, who they identified as Abdul Jalil.

He had come home from Dubai, UAE where he was a migrant worker, on leave,’ they added. No further details of Abdul Jalil are known.
