Airwars Assessment
At dawn on June 13 2025, one civilian woman was reportedly killed, and her child was injured or killed during an alleged Israeli airstrike on their home in Tehran, Iran.
Maryam Minaei, a 29-year-old mother, was reportedly killed during the attack in Tehran, according to @tanwir_qasim and other local sources. The status of her two-year-old son, Radin, is unknown. The majority of sources reported him as alive, but in critical condition. Some comments on social media suggested that Radin may also have died from injuries.
Maryam’s death was widely reported by Iran’s news outlets, including @raaknews.ir, Tasnim News Agency, Rokna News Agency, Farhikhtegan Daily and Jam-e Jam. Her killing resonated deeply with many, leading to numerous online memorial posts and tributes. One Instagram user, identifying themselves as a former university friend, expressed their shock and disbelief, stating that “an arrow” had been drawn in their heart. X user, @aminjafarzad, described their childhood memories of sharing a desk with Maryam’s twin brother, Reza, in elementary school.
Other posts emphasised Maryam’s status as an “ordinary citizen” and her identity as a mother to a young son. One Instagram user, @amiresmaeli, wrote that she “was not a soldier, her only rank was mother.’” Another user, @reyhane_heydari63, left a comment describing Maryam as “beautiful and dignified.”
In a widely shared photograph, Maryam can be seen with her eyes closed, wearing a white outfit and smiling contentedly as she hugs what appears to be her son, Radin, as a newborn.
X user, @anaik_es, who described themselves as a friend of Maryam, wrote that she died when her “room was turned to rubble.” The same user stated that Maryam’s neighbour was the senior Iranian official, Ali Shamkhani. However, this information has not been verified and the incident involving Ali Shamkhani has been assessed separately (ISIR250613p).
The exact location of Maryam Minaei’s was not mentioned among local sources. While one news outlet reported that she was killed in Narmak, this detail was not corroborated by other sources. The only information regarding her location that was consistently reported across sources was that the airstrike occurred somewhere in Tehran.
All sources that identified a belligerent attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military.
