Airwars assessment
One adult civilian male named as Naji Ismail al Khalouf was reported killed in an alleged Coalition strike at the village of Khalouf al Daeef in Hassakah. A woman and child were also said to have been ‘seriously’ injured.
According to the Syrian Observatory, “aircraft believed to be from the international Coalition carried out several strikes on areas in the village of Khalouf al Daeef in the al Ma’aza mountains near Markada in the southern Hassakah countryside which led to the death of a citizen, and the wounding of a child and a woman.”
In a later report, the Syrian Network said “Fixed-wing international coalition forces warplanes fired missiles that targeted Khlouf Al Da’ief village, located in Jabal Ma’za in the southern suburbs of Al Hasakak and is under the control of ISIS, which resulted in the killing of Mr. Naji.”
The alliance publicly declared no strikes in the governorate on this date.
In their May 2020 civilian casualty report, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that no Coalition actions were conducted in the geographical area at that time.
