Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: June 16, 2026

(Previous Incident Code: ISIR260301b )

Around 10 a.m. on Sunday, 1 March 2026, five people, including an elderly woman, were killed in an alleged Israeli and/or U.S. airstrike on Iran Street in a residential area near the Shahid Mahallati School in the neighbourhood of Absardar in Tehran, Iran. More than a dozen civilians were reported injured. In addition to Shahid Mahallati Boys’ Elementary School, a Shahr-e Salem clinic, and a library (Amiri Bookstore), several residential buildings were damaged or destroyed. The identities of the victims were not yet publicly available – this assessment will be update if more information emerges.

Following the alleged strike, Tass and Tasnim News, as well as Telegram channel @akhbarefori, reported that five people had been killed. However in an interview with Mehr News, a resident of one of the affected buildings claimed that one person was killed in the strike – a man from Afghanistan who was the caretaker of the building.

Some sources suggested that a local Basij base near to the school may have been the target of the attack. The Basij is a paramilitary volunteer militia making up one of the five branches of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iranian female MP, Fatemeh Mohammadbeigi, gave details on civilian harm while talking to Mehr News, claiming that “an elderly woman who was passing by was killed by the blast wave. A husband and wife were unfortunately killed at the intersection. All of them were ordinary people. Their [the attackers] assumption was that this was a local Basij base next to the school. Unfortunately, people who were inside the buildings were also martyred.” At the time of writing, Airwars was unable to determine the names of the victims.

With regards to the number of injuries caused by the strike, ILNA quoted a Tehran city councillor as saying that “in this attack, a significant number of injured people were transferred to Absardar Center and were treated and discharged on an outpatient basis.” The Shahr-e Salem clinic, the same clinic damaged in the attack, posted on the Iranian social media app Bale that Dr. Bentolhoda Mohammadshirazi was honored for treating “80 individuals…at the height of the bombardment.”

Hamshari Online provided a more detailed account of the attack on the clinic and injuries sustained by civilians on the day of the incident, explaining that “about two hours before noon, following an attack on buildings on Mojahedin-e Eslam Street, the sound of a massive explosion echoed inside the clinic. Suddenly, part of the clinic building was damaged by the bombing. The walls cracked, the windows shattered, and dust settled over everything. Despite fear and anxiety, the clinic’s medical and administrative staff rushed into the street to help the wounded.” Saeed Jabbari, the clinic’s director, recounted that day as follows: “Thick smoke and dust had covered everything, and the moans and cries of the wounded could be heard. We could not wait for rescue teams. My colleagues at the clinic — from doctors and nurses to administrative staff — got to work bringing the injured inside the clinic for treatment.”

Jabbari continued to describe the injuries in detail: “In total, we treated nine cases of skull fractures, seventeen leg injuries, including shrapnel wounds and fractures, nineteen hand injuries, forty-four injuries to other parts of the body, and severe wounds such as a severed ear and shrapnel injuries to the eyes. We had no choice but to provide urgent initial treatment before they could be transferred to the hospital.” According to the report, the number of injuries may be as high as 89; however, it is difficult to determine the exact number of civilians injured.

Several residential buildings were reported to have been damaged in the bombing. A post on Telegram by @Tasnimnews featured several photos taken from street level, showing a heavily damaged and partially damaged residential building on fire, with debris blocking the street and partially covering a parked car. Photographs posted alongside a Mehr News article describing cleanup efforts after the strike show a heavily damaged and partially-collapsed building, which appears to be different from the structure shown in the @Tasnimnews report.

According to Iranian lawmaker Fatemeh Mohammadbeigi, who spoke to Mehr News, “more than five buildings on Iran Street near the Shahid Mahallati School were damaged in the attacks. Many cars were burned. Many residential buildings have been rendered uninhabitable. Municipal workers are clearing the rubble.” She also added that “many other buildings have completely lost their doors and windows. There was also a severe fire. Even a women’s tailoring employment center affiliated with the Saffar Family was completely damaged.”

Xaccount @PadDolat reported that “the weekly press conference of the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson was held at Shahid Mahallati Boys’ Elementary School in Tehran, located in the Iran neighborhood of Charah Absardar, which had suffered serious damage” in the attack. Photographs accompanying this post showed a classroom with extensive damage to the ceiling and debris scattered throughout. Tasnim News and the China Xinhua News account on Facebook also carried photos and footage of the same damaged classroom.

X account @Aljarmaqnetnews reported that a library had also been damaged in the strike, and carried photographs of a damaged room with fallen bookshelves.

The Shahr-e Salem Company channel on Bale posted images of its clinic showing damage sustained in the attack. Photographs show men sweeping up glass and covering window frames with plastic. Another post on the same channel indicated that the clinic was closed after the attack and reopened on 7 March.

@Aljarmaqnetnews described the attack as an “airstrike.” @Tasnimnews attributed the strike to American and Israeli forces, and Tass used the term “US and Israeli strike.” It is not currently possible to determine which of these two forces carried out the attack, but as sources agree that a strike was indeed carried out, it has been graded a “likely strike.” Multiple sources report civilian harm, so this strike has been graded “fair.”

I walk from Shuhada Square to Absardar intersection. The street is busy and the shops are open. Since a few days ago, when one of the houses in this area was hit, you can still see the broken glass of the shops and the house on the floor of the street. In this situation, reason says to close the shutters of your shop and start a business when the situation calms down, but the heart says that life continues under the missile attack. Don't people want pickles and olives under bombardment? Or is it that no one is supposed to go to the barber shop in the days leading up to Eid, so both the pickle shop and the barber shop are open! As the young boy sweeps the remaining broken glass out of his shop with a broom, he greets his new customer, replacing the broken glass with plastic. When I see the Iran sign on the wall, my heart trembles. What happened to this neighborhood is the same thing that has affected the entire homeland, claimed the lives of the children of Minab, dumped rubble on the heads of Tehranians, and destroyed the historical monuments of Isfahan. The aggressor doesn't care who belongs to which neighborhood, city, or village, he hits everyone. I walk down the street until the smell of bulldozers and dirt fills my ears and nose. I turn into a side alley until the dirt and dust no longer allow me to see in front of me. It takes a few seconds for me to see the image in front of me amidst this mass of dirt. A young boy with a deep fryer in his hand emerges from the dust and a ruined house, behind him another person with a meat grinder, two people at a distance are holding a table and putting it in the back of a pickup truck, a house in a narrow alley is completely destroyed, the houses around and in front of it are also destroyed. A young boy wearing a robe and turban and holding a microphone from the sixties is telling the children behind a loudspeaker, "Move, we have a lot of work to do." I don't understand why he's saying this behind a loudspeaker when he can talk to the children like this and have his voice heard! Someone on the other side says: "Hajji, for God's sake, put that loudspeaker away." Hajji says as he holds the loudspeaker in front of his mouth, "I want to, but it won't turn off." Haji and the other children who are constantly coming out of the houses and going back in with tools are a group of jihadists who are helping the residents of the houses destroyed by Trump-sponsored bombs during these difficult days. All of them have been asking to come to Tehran since the beginning of the war, most of them young, and at most 24-25 years old. I soon learn that a group of about 10 students from Hamedan University have come to Tehran. Another 7-8 are students from the Qom Seminary. Mohammad Masih, one of the doctors, says with a shovel in his hand, “We are more than this, we are all students, each of us belongs to a city, and every morning we go to the area to clear the rubble from the areas that the enemy bombed last night.” A few days ago, they were in Shahid Borujerdi Town, and a few days before that, Mirdamad, he says, the first people to see us are the ones who put up a guard, then when they see the children's efforts to help, they come to help themselves. He says that the worst thing about these days of clearing rubble is seeing the dismembered bodies of people, sometimes their bodies thrown out several dozen meters from their houses. An old man is standing next to me, and when he hears our conversation, he takes out his phone, films Mohammad Masih, and asks questions about the children's jihadist activities like a journalist. War has turned everyone into a journalist, even those who are affected by the war like to create a role in the narrative field. I climb the stairs one by one. I am standing in front of a house whose entrance is completely destroyed, this same house in front of the elevator, has American and Zionist flags painted on the floor, so that every time you use the elevator you have to perform a religious duty, to be free from the enemy. The jihadi kids are constantly moving things around, the landlord is busy with them. There is sadness on his face, but so is perseverance. Another resident of the building comes over, I ask if any of the residents of the building were martyred? _No, thank God Who was martyred in the bombing? Only one person, the caretaker of the same building that was hit by the bomb, was an Afghan. I think his body should be on the floor right now One of the jihadi kids interrupts, _No, they took him away an hour ago. The bulldozer is constantly working and digging, the school, which is located near the houses and only its windows are down, has become a shelter for the local people's belongings, everything that has no shelter anywhere is taken to the school yard. From the outside, the houses look like jumbled signs that show the entire house, a house where life flows from a pot on the gas and you can see the torn curtains and the ruins of the walls and the deep damage from the war. The young woman who owns the house is taking pictures, I say, you need female help to pack your things, we are here, just a few minutes ago when we wanted to take a picture of her house, her husband did not allow it, now the woman was apologizing to us that her husband does not like to talk because of the stress she has put on, I say it is okay, they have five children.

Honoring a devoted physician at Tehran Municipality’s District 12 clinic: the story of a woman who did not stop treating the wounded at the height of the bombardment The headquarters building of Shahr-e Salem Company, on Monday, 31 Farvardin, hosted a ceremony in which the company’s CEO, Seyed Abolfazl Zakerian, honored Dr. Bentolhoda Mohammadshirazi, the devoted physician of the District 12 clinic, for her remarkable selflessness during the difficult days of the imposed war. A doctor who, as the wounded arrived one after another at the clinic, not only did not stop, but stood firm with all her strength until the very last moment. According to the Public Relations Office of Shahr-e Salem Company, the days of the Ramadan war were anything but ordinary for the District 12 clinic. The bombardment of surrounding areas had sent large numbers of wounded people to the clinic. The pain that cried out, the flowing blood, and the eyes pleading for help formed a scene that would have overwhelmed anyone. Yet Dr. Bentolhoda Mohammadshirazi and her colleagues—this young, unassuming doctor—stood calm and steadfast in the heart of this storm. On that day, Dr. Mohammadshirazi treated nearly 80 wounded individuals—eighty human beings, each carrying a story of pain and suffering. Without allowing herself even a moment of fatigue, she placed her hands on wounds, brought comfort, and provided care. She paid no attention to the clock, nor to her assigned shift. But what sets this physician apart is not only the number of patients she treated, but her spirit and composure. In those tense days, when the pressure of work exceeded all limits, she met each injured person with patience and a smile, treating them as someone dear. One of the nurses present recalls: “Even though her shift had ended, she stayed. She said, ‘I won’t leave until I see that the last wounded person is alright.’”

Honoring the dedicated manager of the District 12 clinic of Shahr-e Salem Company: a manager who did not abandon the clinic amid the city’s bombardment On Monday, 31 Farvardin, Seyed Abolfazl Zakerian, CEO of Shahr-e Salem Company, in a meeting attended by the company’s deputies, honored Saeed Jabbari, head of the District 12 clinic, as a symbol of “jihadi management” and a model of steadfast commitment. A manager who, during the difficult days of the third war, demonstrated assistance to fellow human beings in the most exemplary way, with sacrifice, selflessness, and without any expectation of reward. According to the Public Relations Office of Shahr-e Salem Company, the days of the Ramadan war were harsh. The enemy relentlessly bombarded areas surrounding the clinic. The wounded arrived one after another at the District 12 clinic. In this war, part of the clinic building was unfortunately damaged by the bombardment: walls cracked, windows shattered, and dust settled over everything. But the clinic’s manager—that dedicated man—was the first to roll up his sleeves amid the debris and damage. Standing alongside his staff, he gathered the team and remained fully engaged. With the support of Shahr-e Salem Company’s management and the solidarity and cooperation of related units such as the support department, the clinic was rebuilt in the shortest possible time, and medical services for patients—especially citizens affected by the war—resumed. Medical services for the wounded during those difficult days were provided entirely free of charge. Beyond that, scenes unfolded that are rarely witnessed: administrative staff who rushed to the clinic to help the injured in any way they could; doctors who were off-duty yet stood beside their colleagues without hesitation; and nurses who, with a smile, eased the exhaustion and pain of the wounded.
