Euphrates Post reported that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and International Coalition allegedly arrested the former ruler of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) “House of Money” in a counter-terrorism raid operation with aerial support on January 4th 2023 in Hatin Farm, located in the Al-Raqqa countryside. There are currently no reports of civilian or belligerent harm or death.

The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the ruler was managing the finances during ISIS’ control over Deir Ezzor, and has facilitated ISIS attacks on the SDF. Details of his name have not been released.

The SDF took responsibility for this operation in a statement that said “the special units carried out an operation in the northern countryside of Raqqa, and arrested a former ISIS leader who is linked to active and sleeping cells in the area.” The statement also confirmed the support of the International Coalition.
