Four people were killed and a woman was injured by an alleged SDF raid with the support of the Coalition in the village of Shanina, Syria at dawn on September 15, 2024. Four of those killed have been classified as “contested” civilians.
A tweet from @nahermedia reported that “Four people were killed and a woman was injured during a raid carried out by a special force from the “SDF” with the support of the international Coalition aircraft, in the village of Shanina” at dawn. The killed were identified as Hamad Matar al-Manahi, Latif Mudhifi al-Suwaidi, Mutairi al-Ghanimi, and a fourth person of unknown identity from the Al-Aqeedat tribe. The post included images of three men wearing keffiyehs.
Al-Fad’an News provided additional information about the victims: Hamad Matar al-Manahi, Latif Mudhifi al-Suwaidi and Mutairi al-Ghanimi were from the Anaza tribe and “were unarmed civilians and had no connection to any other organization or party”. The source stated that the men had been killed by the airdrop operation by the international Coalition after spies and members of the SDF submitted false reports that the men were members of ISIS. Additionally, the fourth person who was killed’s body was reportedly at Raqqa National Hospital and the woman who was injured sustained injuries to her hand.
A Facebook post from Ali Faisal stated that the the four men killed were members of the same family and were “believed to be ISIS militants”, adding that “Information leaked from former residents is likely what led the SDF and coalition to the farm”. Another post from Ali Husein quoted the Syrian Democratic Forces who published information about “the special operation carried out by its Counter-Terrorism Forces (YAT) in cooperation with a force from the International Coalition, which targeted one of the ISIS terrorist cells in the village of Al-Dashisha” which “[resulted] in the killing of three people (Hamad Matar Al-Manahi, Abdul Latif Mudhifi Al-Suwaidi and Mutairi Ali Al-Ghanimi) and the serious injury of “Muzahim Abdul Jawad.” Based on the conflicting information on militant or civilian status, all four of those killed have been classified as “contested” civilian.
