Nawaf Mohammad al-Sablan was killed and his cousin injured after an alleged “International Coalition” drone strike near the village of al-Ammala in the Raqqa Governorate during the afternoon of 15 January, 2025. Facebook user Al Rakei reported that both men were “herding to tend to their sheep” at the time of the strike.
@DeirEzzore reported that al-Sablan was a shepherd, and decided that “everything [that] moves in these areas has become a target under the pretext of the “ISIS” organization.” Facebook user Malak concurred, claiming that the strike occurred “after a report from the PKK/YPG militia to the international coalition giving false coordinates about the presence of ISIS cells.” Despite these statements, no source claimed al-Sablan or his cousin was a militant.
Two photographs of al-Sablan were shared. A young, bearded man, one photograph shows him standing next to a vehicle in a thawb. In the other, he can be seen looking at the camera with an orange scarf wrapped around his head. No further detail regarding the cousin’s identity or injuries were made public.
Where sources identified a responsible military, all sources attributed the strikes to the International Coalition.
