Around midnight on March 3-4, 2026, three to four people were reported injured in an alleged drone strike or falling debris in the Kasnazan district of Erbil, Iraq. The names of the victims were not found among local sources.
After midnight on March 4, Al Jazeera reported “four injured after a drone crashed into civilian homes in the Kasnazan district of Erbil.” Iraq Post and Al Maghreb accounts on Facebook also reported the incident shortly after midnight, marking the information as “breaking.” Mohammed Amer Al-Huwaidi reported on Facebook that “In #Iraq, drone attacks continued, with several drones crashing in #Erbil, including one in the Kasanazan district that injured four civilians after it struck homes.” Zagros Arabic noted that the incident “caused material damage to citizens’ property” as well.
According to multiple media reports, a drone crashed into a residential neighborhood, causing both civilian casualties and material damage to property. While Al Jazeera, Peshmerga Ypg Guerilla, and Mohammed Amer Al-Huwaidi reported four injuries, Zagros Arabic claimed that three individuals were wounded in the incident. Additionally, Al Maghreb Press reported that four victims sustained serious injuries.
A video posted by Rudaw on Facebook shows fragments of a drone hitting Xenzan (Kasnazan) in Erbil lying on the ground, inspected by local residents, with a serial number of the drone visible.
On the morning of March 4, Journalist Mokhalad Mezher posted on Facebook that “a suicide drone targeted the #Kasnazan area, coinciding with the sound of several loud explosions in the #Koysinjaq district of #Erbil province,” and shared a photo of a crowd gathered in what appears to be a residential neighborhood at night. Kurdistan24 news outlet posted a video on Facebook showing what appears to be security camera footage that captured “the moment the drone was shot down in Kasnazan, Erbil.” In the upper-right corner of the frame, an orange fireball can be seen. Rudaw outlet shared a video that purportedly shows “the wreckage of the suicide drone that crashed in Kasnazan, Erbil.” In the clip, various sections of munitions can be seen in detail.
None of the available sources have identified a belligerent in this incident. Therefore, the parties to the conflict have been listed as “belligerents” and the strike status of this incident has been graded as contested until further information is found.
