On Sunday morning, 15 June 2025, at least one civilian, a woman, was killed, and other women and children were reportedly injured in the house of the civilian Issa Tamer in the village of al-Tali’i, in the Safita countryside, Tartous Governorate, Syria, by falling remnants from an alleged Iranian Shahed-136 drone that had been shot down by an alleged Israeli interception missile. Their family’s house was reportedly burned as a result of the attack.
Twitter/X user @QalaatAlMuduq posted that the victim died at night after sustaining “critical injuries” in the incident in the morning, further noting that the drone appeared to be a Shahed-136 Iranian drone. They posted images of the remnants of the drone, as well as a picture of the victim prior to the incident – a cheerful-looking middle-aged lady with a gentle smile. Other users and pages on social media identified the victim as Zahra Hassan Tamer (Umm Hatem). Facebook page Real or Fake reported that the house had been struck by a drone that was “shot down”, and that the house belonged to Zahra and her husband, Issa Tamer, with most of their house burning down in the incident. Facebook page Safita Now reported that Zahra suffered severe burns, and shared an image of their family’s house that was completely burnt.
Initially, Qutayba Yassin reported that a drone, “believed to be Iranian”, had crashed into a house in the al-Tali’i village in the Safita countryside, Tartous, but that at the time, there were no reports of casualties. Later, Twitter/X user @DrZM12345678 posted that an “unknown drone” had “bombed” the house, resulting in “serious injuries to children and women”, and a fire that “completely destroyed the house.” Images they shared show the smouldering remains of the front of the house, with local residents gathered around it. However, no other sources were found that corroborated the information on the injuries to children and other women.
Jinha Agency, meanwhile, stated that the drone had crashed into the house, exploding, which led to a woman being seriously injured and later succumbing to her wounds. They reported that the incident was a result of “exchanges of attacks between Iran and Israel.” Al-Jumhuriya news also reported that the drone fell “amid escalating air clashes between Iran and Israel.” Facebook user Rojava stated that the falling drone caused a “complete fire” in the house, along with “several injuries.”
The Facebook page Al Sufsafeh Mountains & Plains announced Zahra’s death in a post, stating she had succumbed to her injuries from the falling drone, and offered condolences to her surviving family. Another page, Safita, posted about Zahra’s burial at the village cemetery.
Pages on social media also posted a tragic image of her family, joyful smiles are seen on her husband’s and her faces, as they hold their two little children, a boy and a girl.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the incident as having been from the falling remnants of an alleged Iranian drone allegedly shut down by the Israeli military. Therefore, Airwars has graded both strike status and civilian harm status of the incident as contested.
