Airwars Assessment
At around 8 a.m. on Friday morning, 20 June 2025, at least one civilian, a woman named Thuraya Aqab al-Shahadah, was severely injured near a tent between the towns of Kahil and al-Taybeh in the eastern countryside of Daraa, Syria, by falling remnants from an alleged Iranian drone intercepted by Israeli missiles. Additional injuries were also reported among members of the Abu Sayyah family, and the tent where the family used to live was completely destroyed. It was not clear from the sources whether this was an additional family name for the al-Shahadah family, or whether another family was affected too.
Twitter/X user Qalaat al-Mudiq posted that on the morning of the incident date, a woman had been “severely wounded” as a result of the interception of an Iranian drone by an Israeli “warplane” above the Eastern Daraa countryside. A video posted by them showed a massive impact crater near a tent, with a witness who was standing near the tent saying:
“The group was sitting safely in their home. At 8:00 in the morning, a missile was fired at them from an Iranian or Israeli drone. The Abu Sayyah family was affected by injuries, and the house, which was just a tent, was completely destroyed. They were left with no shelter or anything. May God help the world.”
Meanwhile, Facebook page Solution Net posted that the woman had been injured “on the outskirts of the town of Taybeh, and the Facebook page Syrian Observatory stated that the “Syrian citizen was injured” after remnants from the interception in “the sky of the region” fell on the residential areas in al-Suwayda governorate.
Facebook page “The Bedouins, oh how I love them and how I cherish their hospitality” shared a video of an impact crater near tents with local residents gathered around. They posted that “Mrs. Thuraya Aqab al-Shahadah from the al-Busaylah clan” has been “seriously injured” from falling shrapnel “of a rocket that hit near the tent where she was staying, between the towns of Kaheel and al-Taybeh.” They further noted that the victim was taken to Daraa National Hospital for treatment.
Enab Baladi News reported that the victim was from the Bedouin community of the al-Suwayda Governorate, and that she was injured by the “remnants of an Iranian missile” that fell on the tent she was staying in.
The Facebook page Refuge 24 also posted that the cause of the victim’s injury was falling shrapnel from “an Iranian missile” falling into the Daraa countryside after being intercepted by Israeli forces in the “airspace of the Daraa Governorate.” They noted that she was from the al-Suwayda Governorate, and that she had to be admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital “due to the seriousness of her condition.”
The news agency Daraa 24 posted a video on Facebook showing the interception of an alleged Iranian drone in the skies, followed by a loud explosion, which reportedly took place between the towns of Kahil and al-Taybeh and led to the injury of Thuraya al-Shahadah. The second part of the video showed a large crater near the tent.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the shrapnel as having been from the alleged interception of an Iranian drone by Israeli forces. Therefore, Airwars has graded both strike status and civilian harm status of the incident as contested.
