Four people were injured on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, after debris from alleged Iranian missiles which were intercepted fell on a residential area in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The names of the victims were not found among local sources.

According to the post on the official X account of the Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia, @modgovksa, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said: “Four ballistic missiles launched towards the city of Riyadh were intercepted and destroyed. Debris from the interception fell on various areas in the capital, and initial estimates indicate no damage or injuries.”

However, later on the evening of March 18, Saudi Civil Defense reported that “four Asian residents were injured and there was limited material damage as a result of shrapnel falling on a residential site in Riyadh after a ballistic missile was intercepted.” Alghad TV reported that “Explosions rocked the Saudi capital, Riyadh, following an Iranian attack that sparked a fire and sent plumes of smoke into the air.” This is the only available source that explicitly attributed the attack to Iran.

Videos filmed from a distance showed multiple blasts lighting up the Riyadh skyline, with thick plumes of smoke rising in the aftermath. Alghad TV reported that the explosions rocked the capital and sparked a fire. According to Xinhua, “several explosions were heard across the city, and mobile phone alerts were triggered for the first time for residents in the Saudi capital’s urban area since the current regional conflict began.”

The strike status of the incident has been recorded as “contested” because while only one source attributed the original attack to Iran, the Ministry of Defence of Saudi Arabia acknowledged that the missiles had been intercepted, without saying who was responsible for the interception.
