Airwars Assessment
On the evening or night of Monday, June 23, 2025, three civilian men were killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike in Harunabad, village, near Bahar County, Hamedan Province, Iran. 31-year-old crane operator, Rashid Dinvari, was killed, along with police sergeant, Ali Kakavand, and police major, Ali Soltani Maram. Sources indicated that the strike targeted a missile launcher positioned in the Bahar County Reserve Area. A fourth individual, a “soldier” was also reportedly killed.
According to multiple sources, including Basij News Agency and IRIB News Agency, “Rashid Dinvari, a 31-year-old young man from Farhangian Town in Hamedan…was neither a soldier nor a warlord; rather, he was a man of the people, a hard-working [crane] driver [who] wanted to use his crane to build a school in the villages.” These sources stated that on the night of his death, Rashid received “a call from the police force that a car had been left next to the launcher and needed to be moved, and Rashid immediately answered: “I’m coming.” He was subsequently killed in the strike on the launcher.
Following Rashid’s death, Twitter/X user @Fateme_z20 honoured the young man for “volunteering to help” and shared his picture. @hshohada_ir also shared photos of Rashid’s loved ones gathered in front of his portrait.
The morning after the strike, Mehr News Agency and others reported that “last night, Major Ali Soltani Maram, commander of the Bahar County Police Relief Unit, and First Sergeant Ali Kakavand, were targeted by an enemy drone attack while carrying out a mission in the city’s security zone and achieved the highest degree of martyrdom.”
@hamedanonline.ir posted an image to Twitter/X showing Ali Kakavand and Ali Soltani Maram in their light green police uniforms. These uniforms are those of the prevention police or FARAJA – the law enforcement force of the Republic of Iran responsible for crime prevention. An image shared by @RoknaPress showed the same.
The Islamic Republic News Agency and Mizan Online shared pictures from Rashid’s funeral in Hamedan. His funeral procession was shared with Farshid Karimi and Amir Mohammad Zamani who were also from Hamedan and killed in June 2025. It appears that Farshid and Amir were militants or otherwise associated with the IRGC.
Pana News Agency recorded an interview with Rashid’s wife, Mrs. Sedighe Khoshkhalq, and their two young children eight-year-old Abufazl and ten-year-old Anisa. Sedighe remembered her husband’s dedication and to his family: “He loved both me and our children very much. He always looked at the children in a way that filled his face with laughter.”
Describing the night that Rashid was killed, Sedighe said “We were present at a family party on the night of the incident. They were watching the war news when they called and it was announced that there had been a clash. I called [Rashid] at 12:30 AM and he said he would be back in an hour or two.” Sedighe went on to say that drones had been spotted in Harunabad earlier in the day and a number of IRGC soldiers had been killed. Rashid was ordered to go to “Harunabad” and after “dispersing the crowd…a loud gunshot was heard 200 to 300 meters from the place and my husband, Martyr Soltani Maram, along with Martyr Kakavand and their companion soldier, achieved the highest degree of martyrdom.”
Airwars has recorded Sedighe’s recounting of a “companion soldier” as a militant. This will be updated should additional information become available.
Navid Shahed reported that Major Ali Soltani Maram’s funeral procession would take place from “Bab al-Hawaij Mosque in Laljin to Farhang Crossroads in the presence of the families of the martyrs and the people of the Laljin Governorate, and then [he would be] buried in the city’s Martyrs’ Cemetery.”
@htavasoli_ir shared a video from the officers’ funeral procession to Instagram. In the video, a crowd of people march down the street, presumably following the coffins of Ali Kakavand and Ali Soltani Maram. Some of those marching in the video appear in the light green police uniforms that the pair once wore. Others are seen in uniforms that may indicate militancy.
On June 25, Akharin Khabar reported that “the people of Bahar city sent off the martyr of the [Israeli military’s] attack, Ali Kakavand, to his hometown.”
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
