Airwars Assessment
Three people were killed and 37 others wounded according to a statement from Dr. Wissam Ghazal, the head of the Tyre District Medical Department at the Ministry of Public Health, on 2 March 2026. Ghazal reported that three hospitals in the area, the Hiram, Jabal Amel, and the Lebanese-Italian, had received the injured. Some of the injuries were reported to be serious.
Just after 2 PM in the afternoon, Kamal Kobeissi shared a video to Facebook showing a boulevard packed with cars in stand-still traffic. The video was accompanied with the text: “Residents of southern Lebanon have begun fleeing in fear of Israeli bombing and invasion.” Kamal added “The video is from north of Tyre, and the road from there is a vital artery for accessing the western sector of southern Lebanon.”
Others, like Youssef Benkhaleq, Zaher Hijaze, and Souliman Ali posted videos showing buildings being hit by alleged Israeli airstrikes and artillery. Youssef’s video showed a 12-storey building which “was leveled with its occupants.” The video from Zaher showed the aftermath of Israeli shelling which destroyed “a building housing a Hezbollah terrorist site collapsed in Tyre, Lebanon”. Souliman was among those who posted a video showing the bombing of the Al-Qard Al-Hasan building. Facebook users pointed out that you could see money flying in the after the strike, as the building had housed a currency exchange.
While the sources mentioned above attributed the destruction of infrastructure in Tyre to the Israeli military, the three posts which attested to civilian harm in Tyre did not name a belligerent. Therefore, though sources like the three above attested to the fact that the Israeli military was striking buildings and neighbourhoods across Tyre on March 2, as those reporting on the civilian harm did not name a belligerent, both military actors known to be involved in the conflict in Lebanon on the day of the incident – the Israeli Military and Hezbollah Forces – have been recorded as possible belligerents. In line with this, the strike status and civilian harm status have both been recorded as ‘contested’. This will be updated should additional information become available.
