On Monday, September 23, 2024, a cleric Sheikh Tali’ Zain al-Din (alternatively spelled as Zeineddine) was killed in his car alongside his wife and children in an airstrike on a vehicle near the town of Arnoun.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, multiple social media posts reported the disappearance of Sheikh Tali’ Zain al-Din, along with a picture of a middle-aged wearing a white turban. Ali Mohammed Zain Al-Din posted that his uncle, Tali’ Zain al-Din, left Safad Al-Din at 13:30 to take his family to Beirut, losing contact with his family at 14:00. Pictures of the model of the car, a Toyota RAV4 were disseminated, and a phone number requesting any available information. @HasanSaado1 posted on Twitter/X on September 24th that “What is being circulated about his return to his family is false news.” On September 25, 2024, Al Arabiya Channel announced in its post that Tali’ Zain al-Din was killed two days before after his car was hit by an airstrike. Social media accounts, including @Omar_Madaniah, reported that Tali’ Zain al-Din was killed along with his family inside his car, including his wife and children.

Twitter/X user @_sayedbasel added a video where the late Tali’ is seen reciting a religious verses.

Some media, such as Masrawy News, Al Arabiya Channel, and Al Arabiya, reported the cleric’s ties to Hezbollah. Twitter/X user @Omar_Madaniah alleged that the late Tali’ was “fleeing from the front, the turbaned Hezbollah member.” Based on this information, as Tali’ was a cleric, he has been classified as a protected person – “Medical and Religious Personnel (Non-State)” – until further information comes to light.

While no sources directly implicated the Israeli military in this incident, Al Arabiya Channel referred to the attack as an “airstrike,” which would likely be a reference to Israeli actions given their air capability in this conflict. Therefore the strike status of this incident has been graded as a “single source claim.”
