Omar Zakaria Mustafa, a Palestinian national living in Lebanon, was killed after an alleged Israeli airstrike in the surroundings of the Jalil Camp in Lebanon’s Baalbek region on Thursday, 26 September 2024.

According to the refugeesps.net portal, Mustafa was at his workplace near a building adjacent to the headquarters of the Secretary-General of the Baath Party in Lebanon when he was killed. The source did not specify the kind of work Omar was performing. The portal emphasized that Omar Zakaria Mustafa was the fourth Palestinian martyr to have been killed as a result of the escalated Israeli campaign on Lebanon, which scaled up on Monday, September 23.

Omar Mustafa, a resident of the camp, had been previously displaced from Syria, having lived in Yarmouk Camp, south of Damascus. A widely shared picture of Mustafa showed a young man looking into the camera with an Airpod in one ear. Another widely circulated picture showed his body wrapped in a Palestinian flag.

A video of his funeral procession posted to social media showed masses of men in the street, including ambulance workers, carrying Mustafa’s body wrapped in a Palestinian flag. According to a post from Facebook user Abdo Al-Mukhtar, “thousands of people from the camp and its surroundings” participated in the funeral ceremonies, which started at the camp’s Bilal bin Rabah Mosque and ended in the Baalbek cemetery.

This incident has been graded as a “Likely” strike with a civilian harm rating of “Fair,” given several sources reporting Mustafa’s death as well as footage shared from his funeral procession.
