Up to 15 people were reported injured after an alleged Israeli airstrike struck a residential building on Tyre’s waterfront promenade at 11:30 p.m. on 29 September, 2024.
The strike killed Hezbollah militant Majid Nidal Joumaa, who had been sitting with friends at the building’s base. Joumaa’s friends, who remain unidentified, were wounded. Yasour News reported that the strike “led to […] the wounding of 15 people who were in the vicinity of the targets.” Of these 15, two “were reported to have suffered serious head injuries.” It is possible, though not definitive, that one of these two was Joumaa, who was reported by Halasour News to have been hit “directly in the head.”
A photograph shared by Facebook user “Tyre City” shows the burning inside of an apartment on the upper floor of the building – the rest of the structure has remained intact.
While the “Dearborn” and “Albuss News” Facebook pages reported Jumaa to be a “paramedic in the health authority,” multiple others included references to Joumaa as a a “Mujahid.” Nidal Joumaa, likely Majid’s father, posted videos in which the distinctive memorial posters Hezbollah releases after a militant’s death can be seen – here, they are of his son.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all pointed to the Israeli military.
