Last Updated: December 15, 2024

On September 30th 2024, three paramedics were reported killed by an alleged Israeli airstrike around 9 AM on a medical centre in the town of Arzoun in southern Lebanon.

On the day of the incident, the news outlet Alahed News published that three paramedics from the Civil Defense in the Islamic Health Authority had been killed following an airstrike in Arzoun. There was no additional information on the identities of the victims. The Islamic Health Authority is a civil defense group that is associated with Hezbollah. While Hezbollah operates an active militant wing, their political presence is also deeply enmeshed within the state, providing social and organisational services, primarily in the Shia’a majority areas in Southern Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley, and the suburbs of Beirut. With this context in mind, and given that there are no indications of militant activities, the presence of the Islamic Health Authority cannot be used to determine if an individual or community is affiliated with Hezbollah’s armed wing, or that there was a militant presence in the area.

Multiple local sources repeated similar information about the strike in Arzoun, therefore this incident has been graded as a “single source claim.”
