On the morning of  Monday November 6th, 2023, the Shaqura family home located west of Al-Rahma Mosque in the Al-Amal neighbourhood, west of Khan Yunis, was hit by an alleged Israeli airstrike that killed at least nine members of the Shaqura family, including two women and five children, and injured seven others.

Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura was severely injured while his wife, Zainab Ali Abdul Hadi Shaqura “Umm Ayad”, their sons, 32-year-old Hussein Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura and 24-year-old Mahmoud Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura, and their daughter, 31-year-old Israa Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura, were all killed.

Israa’s children, a four-year-old boy Nabil Asim Nabil Abu Shammala and a two-year-old girl Nour Asim Nabil Abu Shammala were also killed, as well as seven-year-old Judy Nour El Din El Shobaki and two siblings, five-year-old Omar Eyad Ibrahim Shaqura and six-year-old Abdul Rahman Eyad Ibrahim Shaqura. A sixth child, Muhammed Shaqura, was also reportedly injured in the incident.

According to the journalist Ahmed Al Amoudi who posted a video of the first moments after the strike, seven injured people arrived at Nasser Hospital as a result of the bombing of the Shaqoura family house.

Several sources, such as Twitter/X user @YouthGoDigital, posted pictures of the rubble and destruction surrounding the Shaqura family home after the incident.

Maher Sh Abu Yazan wrote on Facebook that Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura suffered severe fractures and burns, asking for “prayers for his recovery”. Additionally, Twitter/X user @Aljebroo reported the rescue of “the child Muhammad Shaqura from under the rubble of his house that was bombed by an Israeli aircraft”. The post included four pictures of young Muhammad being rescued, covered in dust, and with assisted ventilation.

Other sources reported how Dr. Eyad Shaqura, father of Omar Eyad Ibrahim Shaqura and Abdulrahman Eyad Ibrahim Shaqura, was shocked and heartbroken to see the bodies of his children while working at the Nasser Medical Complex. Mahmoud Shaqoura posted a video on Facebook of his cousin, Dr. Eyad Shaqura, bidding “farewell to his children” while working in the hospital. Alaa Salama posted an additional video of the same scene, in which Dr. Eyad can be seen mourning the death of his children. Amal Hadad also posted online about the death of the two children, writing “May God have mercy on them and on all the martyrs of Palestine”, posting a picture of the two young boys wearing suits at a celebration, smiling side by side.

Many others grieved the death of the nine civilians on Facebook and Twitter/X. Maher Sh Abu Yazan mourned the death of the sons of his “young, well-mannered cousin” Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura, and described Mahmoud Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura as a “polite young man”.

Mohamed Adnan Elzatma grieved the death of his brother-in-law, and wrote “martyred in this massacre were my sister’s husband, the engineer Hussein Ibrahim Shaqoura, his brother Mahmoud Ibrahim Shaqoura, his mother Zainab Shaqoura, his sister Israa Shaqoura, his brother Dr. Eyad’s children: Abdul Rahman Eyad Shaqoura, Omar Eyad Shaqoura, and the children of my cousin Asem… Nabil and Nour Asem Abu Shamala. To God, we belong and to Him we shall return”.

The Al-Bazat family Palestine and the Arab World mourned on Facebook the deaths of their aunt, Zainab Ali Abdul Hadi Shaqura, and her family, asking “God to have mercy on them and to make them dwell in the highest paradise with the prophets, the truthful and the martyrs.” This account also posted a portrait of a young man wearing an official uniform, which could either be Hussein Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura or Mahmoud Ibrahim Hussein Shaqura.

Hãĺä Ï Šhæqoura grieved the death of her mother, Zainab Ali Abdul Hadi Shaqura “Umm Ayad”, her “beloved brothers, Hussein and Mahmoud,” and her “only sister and the love of (her) soul”, Israa– and her children, Nabil and Nour. She also grieved the death of the children of her brother Dr. Eyad, Omar and Abdulrahman. She included a picture of Nabil and Nour dressed formally in a dress and suit and holding a bouquet of flowers; a picture of Omar and Abdulrahman wearing the same suits as the above-mentioned picture, this time posing separately; and headshots of Zainab, Hussein, and Mahmoud.

The names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of fatalities in Gaza released on July 24, 2024.

Where sources have identified a belligerent, all sources have attributed the incident to the Israeli military.
