Two civilians, 64-year-old Abed al-Ghafar Ouda and his 34-year-old son Waheeb Abed al-Ghafar Ouda were killed in alleged Israeli bombardment in Beit Lahia in the North of Gaza on 28 October, 2024. Others were reported injured.
At 11:39 local time, Safa News reported one dead and a number of wounded civilians after a house was hit in Beit Lahia. @alyawmnnews later confirmed two dead among a number of wounded after an Israeli bombardment of a family house.
Waheeb Abed al-Ghafar Ouda was reportedly a football player and the captain for the Shabab Jabaliya Club. Khademt Rafah Al Safha Al Rasmeea posted a photo of the younger Ouda wearing a shiny black coat over a white shirt. He had short black hair, styled back, and a trimmed black beard. The photo is accompanied by the text, “A new martyr from the martyrs of the sports movement.” Yaser Yousief shared the same text, with an accompanying photo of Weheeb playing football – he is wearing a yellow and blue uniform and is in the midst of kicking the ball. Qanat Falsten Ilshabab W Al Ryada shared how Waheeb rose to the Premier League championship as Jabaliya captain and also worked as a coach for the youth team.
According to Jam’ait Makhateer Falsten Al Khaieria, the elder Abed Ouda was the Chairman of the Palestine Mukhtars Association, a member of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly, and Chairman of the Unity Reform Committee in Beit Lahia. Mohammed Abu Nahel posted his grief regarding Abed Ouda to Facebook, writing “we mourn the leader and men of political and national reform in Gaza…” Abed Ouda is shown in several photos wearing a white thobe. In one, he is standing, smiling, with his hands crossed in front of him, wearing the white thobe with black and gold dressing over it. It is evident that both Abed and Waheeb Ouda were valued members of their community.
Both Abed and Waheeb were matched with the eighth publication of the Palestinian Ministry of Health’s List of Fatalities in Gaza, released on 24 March, 2025. While the MoH list reported Waheeb as 33 years old, closer sources identified him as 34.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
